With the FIFA World Cup officially in Kansas City, many fans are already asking the big question:
Will the World Cup ever come back to KC?
The 2026 FIFA World Cup is the first time Kansas City has hosted matches, making it a once-in-a-generation event for soccer fans throughout Olathe and the Kansas City metro. From matches at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium to the FIFA Fan Festival downtown, the city has shown why it was selected as one of the world’s premier host cities.
While many fans would love to see the tournament return soon, the next two Men’s FIFA World Cups are already set. The 2030 tournament will be played in Spain, Portugal, and Morocco, while the 2034 World Cup will be hosted by Saudi Arabia.
That means Kansas City’s next opportunity to host Men’s World Cup matches would likely be sometime after 2034 if the United States or North America submits another successful bid.
The good news is that Kansas City’s strong soccer culture, incredible fan support, and successful hosting of the 2026 matches could help bring other major soccer events to the area in the future, including international friendlies, Gold Cup matches, FIFA Club World Cup events, and even future Women’s World Cup games.
For now, Kansas City soccer fans should enjoy every minute of the 2026 tournament because opportunities like this don’t come around very often.
